Preparing for a local Wild Tournament

Submitted 4 years, 7 months ago by

I'm preparing for a local wild tournament that will be on 9/17! The tournament is following the same Shield Conquest format of Grandmasters. These are the 4 decks I am thinking of bringing. I want to get my lineup solidified to give me time to practice with all of the decks. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the decklists, or maybe have any suggestions on different decks that might be good for a tournament setting?

Deck #1

I spent last month ranking with mostly Even Shaman. I used both this deck, and my Toteven Shaman list: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/decks/6799-toteven-shaman I am torn on which one to bring.

Deck #2

Burn Mage is the deck to beat in Wild atm, so I think it would be silly to not bring it. I would need to craft Aluneth which wouldn't be a problem because I have the dust and have been debating it. I just have been trying to avoid the dark side.

Deck #3

Was leaning towards a Renolock to have a control deck option. Debating going with a Mecha'thun variant, but thinking this deck is probably the best option.

Deck #4

I'm a little torn as to what to bring for the 4th deck. I'm thinking to either bring Odd Rogue, or to throw in a curve ball for fun and to throw opponents off with a Reno Dragon Hunter that I have a lot of fun with.

If you want my honest opinion, I would say decks 1-3 are all solid. If you want to meme in the tournament and win people's hearts, you could bring that Reno Hunter, but imho you should take the rogue deck, if you care more about having success.

I don't necessarily care about winning. It's not like a cash prize for the winner, just a gift card to the Esports bar that it's being hosted at. That being said, I would like to at least do good. Would be a lot more fun to actually win some matches.

Mostly just looking to meet some people in my area that play Hearthstone. Bringing a unique deck is a great conversation starter!

I think this lineup is solid. However, personally, I wouldn't bring Renolock. Sure, it's a good deck, but it's not T1 or consistent enough right now, imo. Just while climbing today, I'm 3-0 against Renolock. Now of course that's an abysmally small sample size, but the deck doesn't seem super powerful currently. I'd rather bring pure Mecha'Thun (with duplicates) or a different deck overall. Pirate warrior or mech hunter are both super strong, but overlooked decks.

I play a ton of wild, and those are just my thoughts. If you'd like to play test anything against whatever to test matchups, I'd be happy to be your practice partner! Add me jaybaseball1#1802 (on NA). Hope this helps. Good luck!

As you said secret mage is the deck to beat in wild currently. Which is why I'm wondering why you don't run any deck that can consistently beat it. From what I've seen and read it seems like both even shaman and odd rogue are 50/50 against it at best, if not unfavored. And renolock is just a matter of having reno on turn 6.

I'd advise to run a deck that can consistently beat secret mage, as nearly everyone will most likely be bringing it to the tournament. Jade druid and odd warrior seem to be the hardest counters. With the latter also having a decent matchup against the reno decks, especially if you go for a greedy build.

I don't have a large sample as an argument,  but i also feel Renolock or Controllock is pretty much hit or miss, mainly based on whether you draw Reno Jackson in time, and even then it's not so safe.

If i were you, i would drop that, and tinker about a Hunter deck with Flare, Dirty Rat, and possibly Wild Bloodstinger too.  Be it Highlander or something else. Basically making Hunter your tech deck against Mage, Reno and possibly Shudderwock Shamans too (which i am sure will flock the tournament as much as Secret Mages).

Alternatively, a CW with some Bomb package and disruption tools. Maybe Mecha'thun as well (but i have no direct experience with CW).

And imo Odd Rogue is kinda redundant with Even Shaman.

I'd almost go with Reno mage rather than the burn variant as it's more flexible and is very different. I also think you should play Sylvanas in that lock

    Reno Jackson

    Kazakus

    My faves!

You can beat me but I will still yeet your skeet
