Return to Gadgetzan's Streets

THE YEAR OF THE HUNT HAS BEGUN!

Pre-story to the Year of the Hunt:
The continuing story following the event of the Year of the Dragon continues with the city of Dalaran chasing down the lost crimnal who escaped the Violet Hold. After Khadgar and the rest of the Mages of Dalaran took back their city, they've been flying around Azeroth looking for those said criminals, which lead them to Gadgetzan. During their attempts to capture the escaped hooligans across town, Noggenfogger asks for help to remove the Dalaran problem by blowing their home with a custom Mana Bomb crafted by Kazakus. Their efforts were foiled however when Noggenfogger got cocky and invited Khadgar to taunt him. He slipped and Khadgar got the lucky break of it. Now Noggenfogger is on the run and the criminals of Gadgetzan have now begun to disband in the aftermath of their gangs being busted by Archmages who were close to being blown-up. Now Gadgetzan is a new business central in Azeroth and has changed it's city to be more "honest working."

Gadgetzan's Streets:
After the events of Dalaran dismantling the gangs, many of the classes broke into new factions of business to keep themselves afloat, though many of them have pining of old times. In this expansion, Triclass cards return, only each Triclass has a newbie on the block and need to catch up to the other's talents if they wanna move up in the world. This appears in the new Keyword of the Expansion, Learning:

In this expansion, each Triclass has a single class learning the type of tribe the classes specialize in. Rogues are learning the dangerous and majestic natures of Dragons from Priests and Warriors, Paladins are learning about the wonderous creations of Elementals from Mages and Shamans, and Warlocks are finally treating their Beasts friendlier with the help of Druids and Hunters. Each Learning Class has a single Learn card (Beginner Cards) that can be put into decks that can generate cards of that type from theirs and other classes to help out. Here's an Example: [Hearthstone Card (Beginner Infuser) Not Found] is a card that encourages Paladin to play with their healing ways, but encourages you to build a way to synergize with more than just a few Elementals. Each Learn card in the Learning Class will have the class colors in the corner so you can always know what classes you are taking from.

Now to show one of the Triclasses and their cards. How exciting!

Elemining Mineral Co.
On the edge of town, recent Meteor falls caught the attention of 3 Boomsday experts that wanted to study the rare elements found there, as well as in the underground waterways that the meteors exposed underneath the sands. Kangor and Luna both sought out the rare powers of these elements (Though Kangor had very little experience with Elemental power), causing them to connect with the wonderful Elementals that exist in the Company. Seeing Elementals would be a great help with the business, they offered a co-ownership with Electra to help out with the Underground Rapids. After a year of work, the three took in a child with natural gifts of working with Elementals and decided to make her their successor, creating the Elemining Coal Co. Kangor still struggles to learn about the power of Elementals and their forms and continues to learn from his partners the wondrous creations they have seen and known.

Mage Class Cards: (Theme: Elemental Chaining, Spell Damage Combos, Elemental Control)

Show Spoiler

Luna focuses on the Meteors mostly in the company and has not lost her passion for the stars after Boom Labs blew up. She's grown quite a bit since she worked there and has matured into a natural leader for the young mages in the company.

And the Legendary, Luna herself returns to Standard.

Shaman Class Cards: (Theme: Elemental Board Presence, Spells, and Repeating)

Show Spoiler
Electra secludes most of her time in the Underground Rapids found underneath Gadgetzan and has found her home among the crashing and treacherous waves that flow into the Waters. She spends most of her time working with Water and Stone Elementals to break the rare minerals and rocks that are found underneath the city.

And their Legendary, the one and only chaotic Elemental herself, Electra.

Paladin Class Cards: (Theme: Elemental Chaining, Board Buffing, Secret Strength, Healing Helpers)

Show Spoiler

Paladins have begun to enter the world of Elementals, and things are gonna get a bit bumpy unless Kangor can get them powered-up. Not to worry, there are many things Kangor is trying to uncover underneath all the rubble of the Meteor and Cavern walls. He will know it's strength, it's his purpose, he knows it.

And although he may be simple, he's still perfecting his creations. It's Kangor.

If you guys want to see the rest of the triclasses, feel free to comment below in the Forum. If this doesn't get much notice, I don't free time have to spend 2 hours straight from my day taking every card in the expansion and writing full on explanations for each Triclass. If this Forum gets enough views, I'll post the next Triclass as well as the Neutrals probably next week. If that continues to do well, I'll finished with the Last Triclass and the Triclass Legendaries. If all goes well, I'll post teh Solo Adventure content into my final post. Please comment and leave notes on cards that you think need tweeking or cards you really like so far too! Please tell me what I can do better!

I really like the idea of going back to gadgetzan, with new groups. Feed back time:

Change the wording of Splitting Tunnels so that it would fit 4 lines of text. I suggest "Secret: When an enemy attacks your hero, it instead attacks a friendly minion. Give the attacked minion Divine Shield and Taunt."

I don't know how I feel about the learn keyword. First of all, it doesn't make sense for the learning class to be able to pull from their own class (Paladins are learning from mages and shamans, not from other paladins). Secondly, wouldn't it be easier to just write it out? For beginner infuser, I feel like it would be better to say "Whenever you restore health, add a random mage or shaman elemental to your hand.".

Oger Mage says "another" in its card text, so it can be assumed that it will target two targets 50% of the time. You should either change the statline or the effect, as this version is very powerful.

For Potion of the Sea, I think it should cost 5 mana. Most of the time, it's just an expensive Frost Nova, and when it's not, you likely already used a Frost Nova style card.

I feel like Electra's heropower is much too strong. In big shaman, for 2 mana you get to summon another big threat, without expending any other resources.

Black Hole does not make sense thematically. What do black holes have to do with elementals? And wouldn't a black hole use the Poof mechanic, because point of no return and all?

Lunar lantern displays an elemental in the artwork, I think it would be fine to make it one.

For a set with a focus on elementals, there is a serious lack of elementals. In mage, there is only 1, in shaman and paladin only 3.

Introducing the next set of Triclasses, The Dragon's Guild!:

After many of the gangs disbanded, many of the rare dragons that were procured through the businesses of the gangs ran rampent around Gadgetzan alleyways and blacksalesmen. Don Han'Cho's son Junior, the three-headed ogre, decided he would help the creatures that he loved as he grew up. He gathered Priests to care for the Dragon's Magic as well as Warriors to help keep them fit. He still knew that people would come to take the powerful Dragons for themselves, so he hired rogues to help secure the Dragons safely. He in turn made a Dragon Training ground that became a safe haven in Gadgetzan, where those who wanted to learn of Dragons (and possibly ride them) were able too and made them guild quite popular and profitable. Rogue still don't know much about Dragon's but they'll use any tactics at their disposal to work a way to solve it.

Warrior Class Cards: (Theme: Heavy Control, Dragon Drops, Minion Clearing and Trading)

    Show Spoiler

Warrior focuses on having big board control with their minions as well as keeping the board heavy for the late game through Warrior's tools. Whether it's through AOE clears or Dragon Power, Warrior will always wanna be in control.

And the classes Legendary is their favorite Dragon, the Triple Strike.

Priest Class Cards: (Theme: Combo and Shadow Power [these were made before the Priest rework and Shadowform HOF to clarify])

    Show Spoiler
Priest care for the many dragons with the many ointments and treatments that have been taught to them, and use this to give them great power with their dragons. Some priests still cling to the life of the Kabal and in turn have embraced more of the Shadows.

    Tokens:

And the Priest's favorite Dragon of the bunch, the glorious and everlasting Flightmare.

Rogue Class Cards: [Theme: Secrets, Shuffle, Miracle, and Poison Control]

    Show Spoiler
Rogues are still up to their old tricks and are picking up some forgotten ones too. They embrace their toxic sides and use that to their advantage with their dragons. If they're a bad influence, you better get out of their way.

And Rogues sure do love their Dragon mascot, the Deathgripper.

    Neutral Cards:

    Show Spoiler
The three crime bosses of the old Gangs still hang around Gadgetzan, but they keep their distance from their old lives. Aya became a Jewel salesman after the new Sheriff, Heath, threatened her gang. Don Han'Cho left to be a backstreet smuggler after his son left his side. And Kazakus now spends his time crafting custom ointments and drinks to pay back Gadgetzan for all the damage the Kabal caused. This list will also contain each businesses Elixer and Tribe helper. (Sorry Kazakus and Don Han'Cho don't have art, I wanted to find new art of them, but couldn't find any)

Final Triclass set! The Exotic Beast Trade Federation! The Warlocks came up with the name, although it doesn't really roll off the lizard's tongue.

After the disbandment of the Triclass, many of the Hunters in Gadgetzan tried to help tame the loose Beasts that ran about. They later asked for help caring for the Beasts through the Druid's natural touch on wildlife and agriculture. The 2 classes build the Beast Care facility and spent most of their time nuturing the beasts until they either found a home or grew up and found new lands to live in. Of course, many of the animals caused ruckuses and the animal body counts were not pleasing. The Warlocks of Gadgetzan offered to take care of the dead animals and even were willing to feed them any of the necessary food across Azeroth using their Portals (what they were fed is still kept in question).

Hunter Class Cards: (Theme: Shuffle Tactics, Board Control, Late Game Hitters)

    Show Spoiler

Hunter's really like taking their time in this expansion, from the breeding of more Beasts to the sharpening of their animal's teeth. Be careful not to sleep on the Hunter's, they're packing some good late game this expansion.

And the Class's favorite Tracker is hanging out in Gadgetzan, it's [Hearthstone Card (Selena, Spirit Tracker) Not Found] for the late game values.

    Tokens:

Druid Class Cards: (Treant/Beast Power, Stealth Tokens, Mana Manipulation)

    Show Spoiler

Druids have learnt to manipulate Nature "to a t" in this expansion, learning how to shadow their Trees and having their Beast grow in the branches waiting for their chance to strike. Be on the lookout for Druid's minion, they'll attack when you least expect it seems.

And for Druid's Legendary, the keeper of the Beasts in the Trees, [Hearthstone Card (Felicia, Forest's Friend) Not Found].

    Tokens:

Warlock Class Cards: (Theme: Discard, Demon/Beast Builds, Beast Buffs, Lifesteal)

    Show Spoiler
Warlocks decided to learn how to make their Beasts more powerful in this expansion, teaching them how to grow in the nether and how to imbue them with Fel itself. They even brought some new Demons into the mix and selling them at low prices for the public. Be careful though, those small Beasts will be getting larger the more you knock 'em down.

[Hearthstone Card (Gerald, The Grave Digger) Not Found], was one of the few Warlocks who truly changed his thoughts on caring for the Beasts when his pet rabbit was killed at a young age. So don't toy around with him…

The moment you've all been waiting for the 3 Triclass Leaders.

    Show Spoiler
    Elemining Co Tri-class Card:
Denia was a poor orphan after the Dalaran conundrum and had no home. The 3 Scientists decided to take her under their wing and learned she had the talent to manipulate the Elements herself. She's now become the top protege in the business and is next-in-line to run the business after her adoptive guardians retire.

    Trade Federation Tri-class Card:
Mauna is a very rare Sporebat that was rescued from the Federation early in it's life. The Hunter's tamed it, the Druid's nutured it, and Warlocks, found it the Angry Chickens it loves to eat. After being cared for, the mystical creature remained and drew many others with incredible creatures to it's place of residence.

    Dragon's Guild Tri-class Card:
Junior is a sucker for Dragons. When he saw how they had nowhere to go and were feared throughout Azeroth, he made it his mission to educate and share his love of Dragon with everyone. He's also good friends with Kalecgos after they met during the Dalaran encounter, so be sure to tell Kalec he says whenever you see him!(Sorry for lack of art. Couldn't find any younger looking Don Han'Cho art. Or even other Gang ogre art either)

That's it for revisting Gadgetzan! My next expansion in the Year of the Hunt is still in the works and I don't know how long that will take, but my goodness it's gonna get finished if it's by the end of the year! Hope for more feedback and would love some more encouragement on the custom year. I'm also looking for artists or even card designers to help out with the year, so if you ever wanna help out or just suggest something feel free to send a message! Art will mostly always be accepted because there's only so much you can find on Google. (Please help me *wheezes in Weasel pain*)

Gadgetzan is probably my favorite Hearthstone expansion in relation to themes (not a big fan of the balance). I've actually been working on a sequel to it as well but love seeing someone else tackle the concept.

In regards to your expansion I feel that the balance is pretty off, many of the cards seem very weak or so random they're unplayable Gadgetzan Citizen, Shady Salesman, and Big ol' Bouncer stick out in the neutral set. Class cards like Dragon Training, Legion Dreadstinger, Nightbloom Druid, and more are also super weak. I think you might need to compare a lot of your set with sets in Hearthstone to find similar effects to balance your cards around.

Dragon Training can be compared to give Taunt cards, Sparring Partner and Ancestral Healing let you target the minion you want to give Taunt and come with a bonus. Nightmare Amalgam has vanilla stats. Spreading minions between two bodies, like in Nightbloom Druid's case means you usually get stats higher than vanilla Shrubadier, Landscaping, and  Former Champ.

Also I didn't really feel the Gadgetzan or business flavor throughout most of the class sets. They just seem to be themed around a minion type and their own class. What are all these water elementals doing in gadgetzan? Why is there a raptor from Un'goro here? Your cards need to tell a story and I'm not getting one from them.
