I definitely prefer this format over the previous mono-class master tournament
I much prefer the greater number of classes represented. Variations of the same deck certainly adds some strategic decisions but ultimately is a lot more boring.
I mostly play Wild, and with the larger card pool it's much easier to construct Highlander decks. So Zephrys the Great was one of my very first crafts. In Standard, the question is really whether you like playing Highlander decks. If yes, Zephrys the Great; if not, Siamat. Both cards are excellent though.
Lots I haven't tested yet but so far the Scarlet Webweaver has been amazing.. honorable mention for Pressure Plate cause it got me out of a few sticky situations.
Yeah, I still need to remember that Pressure Plate is a thing and try to play around it.
Wild is the same as it ever was. At least this early on.
I've been seeing a lot more Reno decks to take advantage of the new cards. Zephrys the Great always offers a useful card although he can't save you from certain death. There's been less Big Priest and more Priest experimentation. For myself I'm still tweaking my Priest Quest deck and I'm currently 15-15. If you can stabilize the board you win more often than not. IF. Same for Quest Druid. If you don't dominate enough early Druid can bounce back in a roar. Quest Druid loves getting the Coin.
I'm still tweaking the deck; but my Wild Reno Quest Priest deck is now 10-10. It loses most of the time to really fast decks and of course, Big Priest. However, if you somehow stabilize the board you win more often than not. The new hero power really is good. If you target an injured minion it can deliver up to +3/6.
Meanwhile, my favorite card of the expansion is turning out to be Zephrys the Great. He really does a good job of offering you a helpful card. I've won multiple games thanks to him. Even in a losing effort he's bought me time to try and fight back.
And on more than one occasion I'm glad to have included a Plague of Death. Nothing like a really thorough board clear. It recently wiped away a Rin, the First Disciple.
I'm saving up to craft High Priest Amet. I don't believe he fits this deck though. A card I have experimented with and have had some success with is Lady in White. If you're playing with minions that have a battlecry that hurt themselves she can really take advantage of the original health. A 12/6 Damaged Stegotron did win me one game.
Obviously it's still sad that Raza was nerfed but if he's played AFTER the Priest hero power is upgraded he still reduces the cost to 1. Food for thought for the new quest.
I keep hearing people say this. So what ? How many mammoths did we have in the year of the mammoth ? And how many ravens in year of the raven ? When will you guys understand the name of the year is not related to the theme of its expansions...... It is literally only the zodiac sign of this years hearthstone rotation. It could be anything man. Year of the dragon just sounds a lot cooler than idk, year of the worm ?
Well, mammoths and ravens aren't Hearthstone tribes; but dragons are.
Yes, I was expecting such an indirect nerf. Something like King Phaoris which now muddies the 10-mana slot. Of course, they also added Colossus of the Moon so obviously Blizzard was sending us a mixed message.
This deck currently has a 59% win rate in Wild at ranks 5-10. It will certainly benefit from Embalming Ritual. Sadly the new quest has no synergy and will be too slow. I've tried adding a Grave Horror but I drew it too early too many times. I like the idea of no card costing more than 6 mana. It helps prevent horrid starts. I'm looking for ways to add a little more card draw and it does sadly run out of steam if there's more than one board clear but that's true for a lot of decks.
What!? There's a story?
Oh, and don't expect any strong connections to Warcraft. After all, they removed "Heroes of Warcraft" quite a while ago.

2 mana Extra Arms wasn't why Combo Priest rocks; it was the reason Priest had become viable. I would have much preferred 2 mana Inner Fire. Sigh.
Although the strongest classes haven't changed much it's still nice to see a little more variety.

It's a shame that Plague of Murlocs wasn't the first neutral spell.
Well, mammoths and ravens aren't Hearthstone tribes; but dragons are.
This is supposedly the second expansion of The Year of the Dragon. So what the heck!? No dragons!

Not a versatile card. Only fits one type of Hunter deck. But what an asset this card will be in that type of deck!
Even though the Secret acquired is random the value is amazing. Draw a card, play a 3-cost card for free and you only paid 2 mana. Wow.
I suggested this card a while back for 3 mana. Really happy to see it for 2 mana.
I believe Reno is a concept best conceived in Wild. With so many cards available to build decks with the so-called handicap is mitigated.
It'll take some time to find out how strong this really is but one thing is for sure; if there's a way to make it rock Zetalot will find it.

There are a few minions that damage themselves as a Battlecry. Excellent synergy with this quest.
