I think the issue is that you may not have done the asset download from the newest patch(es) on mobile yet. This same issue happened to me to after the two most recent patches. Click on the settings gear (upper corner) and enable the download of the assets (it will probably show up as "disabled"). It will disable whenever you jump into a match, so I think you just need to have the app open and hang out in the menu or your collection (not 100% sure). Frustrating, but pretty easy to fix. Sometimes it takes a second for the asset download to run.
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments regarding Paladin. I have not played the class since the nerfs, but my take away after about 15-20 games last week is that the Pure archetype in particular was missing a win condition or something with a meaningful impact for the late game (which other classes seemed to have in spades). It felt like I could survive and go toe to toe with most other matchups, but then the deck just ran out of steam and struggled to finish.

As I understand it, under the new system - your opponent is always based upon your MMR, somewhat around your rank. Last month I made legend, and then faced people of all different rank levels once I got there (as the first response said), depending on how successful the deck I was using at the time was. I played wild for the first time this month yesterday and was playing a pretty memey Duel Paladin deck on ladder. I was at bronze 10 and was facing a wall of quest and secret mages and cube lock thrown in occasionally. I had a 9 star win bonus in wild to start, so presumably it was pitting me against people who generally reach diamond ranks or above.
I agree with this completely. I have played the Pure paladin deck a fair bit, and that card can single-handedly save you in the early game - neutralizing early threats from your opponent and adding fuel to your hand. It's one of the best cards in the deck, in my opinion.
I put a second Lightforged Crusader in, in place of Liadrin. And in the place of Talritha, I am using an Aldor Peacekeeper. Paladin was always my favorite class when I played WOW many moons ago (really ever since WC3 and Uther), and I really wish there was an archetype that could compete better in this meta. I play all the classes (most wins are hunter, warlock, mage), but I always wish there was a good reason to play more paladin! So far with this list I have been competitive with almost every opponent, but it feels the worst to lose to the Demon Hunters when you're just on the cusp of gaining the upper hand in terms of board control or tempo, and then they just hero power your face for 5 and drop Kayn Sunfury. But I'll keep playing the list because I've reached my ladder objective and I don't tilt easily :).
I don't have Dragonrider Talritha or Lady Liadrin, but I am enjoying this deck a lot. My record with it is probably about 50-50 over 10 games at Diamond 5. Thanks for sharing this list!

I got legend for the first time this month - I think most of the credit needs to go to the new system, ranking up to diamond 5 with the multiplier felt easier than the ladder of old. I bounced about a bit from 3-1, before finally breaking through with control Galakrond warlock (pre-nerf) because all I was facing at that point were demon hunters :).
Congratulations to you! I hit legend myself for the first time earlier this month and can confirm that jumping around did occur (not so much screaming, as kids were asleep). My wife thought I was a little crazy, but I didn't care.
