Honestly, nothing special from me. Just playing a pretty standard, optimized list of discard aggro. Running into tons of Nasus/Thresh and Azir/Irelia.

Stunningly enough, I somehow keep winning against Nasus/Thresh - which is theoretically supposed to be a really bad matchup, but I guess if I keep beating it, I'll just keep playing the Discard. Got me to Plat 1 so far.

Nasus/Thresh should definitely be running The Wings and The Wave. It's way too good for the deck to not run it.

Irelia MF is less consistent than Irelia Azir have bigger high rolls but also bigger low rolls.

there are counters specially involving Zilean, I tried a go hard deck but it's just not enough, after that I tried a vlad deck, people just rage quit when they queue into you with those Irelia decks..

    also Fiora farms them.

Thresh Nasus? same, a lot of free slays.

I can confirm that mono-Fiora is like a free win against any Irelia deck. The only way Fiora loses is by not drawing Fiora on time, OR not drawing any of the 9 strike cards (Single Combat, Strafing Strike, Concerted Strike)

10 buffs sounds an awful lot like all of the caravans are getting buffed.

I think Ionia might have an actual Ionia deck for the first time in almost a year, rather than just including Ionia for Deny/Nopeify/Shen

Everyone is excited about Yasuo with these cards.

Meanwhile, I see a glimmer of a hint that the final set of this expansion will have a Daybreak champion in Targon.

Yeah, my brain freaked out on me a bit. When I wrote this, I saw Targon and wrote Targon, but I was thinking Shurima.

I'm afraid that some people will walk away from this result and claim that Nasus/Thresh and TLC are fine and don't need nerfs - after all, none of the winners had either of those decks.

The actual reality is that it was very predictable that players would bring those decks (due to their very high power level), so the winners were the ones who successfully built their lists to target those decks.

The winning decklists are generally not top tier decks, but they are very good against TLC and Nasus/Thresh specifically.

Side note - I'm kinda terrified of what a Targon's Peak deck can do with the new card, Buried in Ice.

I'm almost 100% sure that this replaces something in Nasus Thresh. The reason for this is simple - consistency. The deck is very roughly half and half on cards that pump out units and cards that sacrifice units. If you draw all your sacrifice and no unit-pumpers, you have a hard time getting the deck moving in the right direction. Likewise, if you draw all the unit-pumpers and no sacrifice, your deck is basically a ton of chump blockers that don't do much of anything toward your wincon. You need some of both halves of the deck.

This card mitigates the potential consistency problem described above, because it becomes whichever half of the deck you need it to be. If you need the sacrifice effect, it does that. If you need the units, it does that instead.

Improving consistency is something that should NEVER be overlooked when optimizing a deck. I don't know if this would be a 3x or 2x, but I do know that it will be added to the deck.

As mentioned by a couple of others, this will snap-replace Shunpo in Ashe Noxus lists, especially ones that have Marauders.

This guy could be extremely impactful. He's strictly better than Citrus Courier in any case where Reputation has been triggered. And by turn 6, reputation has usually been triggered.

This look like a worse The Ruination to me.

It's a one-sided Ruination that very likely wins the game on the spot if it resolves.

I'm legit terrified that this card is being added to the game. Previously, Freljord only had damaged based board wipes. Now they have a "kill spell" board wipe, without needing SI to get Ruination, AND it doesn't require losing your own board as well. AND it obliterates, meaning any Last Breath abilities don't trigger. AND it doesn't just wipe the enemy board clean - it leaves it clogged up with landmarks, which is very relevant for anything that summons extra units.

This is very ominous, folks. Especially when you start thinking about Targon's Peak, for example - which usually runs with Freljord and Targon, leaving them no Ruination to put in there (which is why they use Skies Descend) - but this is even better than Skies Descend and is castable without absolutely needing the cost reduction.

Proves, yet again, that people are just plain bad at predicting the power level of new cards that none of them has played with. Myself included. I thought Zoe was flat awful and would never accomplish anything.

Other people (not me this time) thought LeBlanc was bad because Mystic Shot. Turns out she's one of the 10 best champs in the game presently. Predicting power level is just hard before playing with the cards.

However, all that being said - Soothsayer is going to be completely busted. Are we ready for Lee Sin to find a new home in Shurima? He's already seen some experimentation with Shurima as his second region - Soothsayer and Chronoshift might just be the extra protection he needed to find a comfy home among the sands. (And I say this with great trepidation ... please let me be wrong.)

    • Despite Raphterra's claims that Tahm Kench + Soraka is "the ultimate Nasus Thresh counter", only 1 other finalist brought it.
      • Note that Raphterra actually also qualified using Tahm Kench + Soraka, albeit on the SEA shard so his deck is not represented here.

He kinda proved it's the ultimate counter to Nasus Thresh by posting a 100% winrate of TK-Soraka into Nasus-Thresh during the tournament. Didn't drop a single game of that pairing.

Same here! I'm really interested to see what these new champions do.

Of course, it also means that I can enjoy the LoR champs for who they are (or hate them - looking at you, Lee and Fiora), regardless of how truly they capture the LoL counterpart. Prime example - I love playing LeBlanc, and I couldn't care less that her design isn't like LoL. I've never played LoL, so why would I care? I think she's awesome as she is, here in LoR.

The reason the min sets haven’t worked that well so far is that they haven’t designed the expansions around mini sets, they designed all the cards and than changed how release schedule would work, which meant some archetypes were designed in a way that leave them feeling broken until all the cards come out. However it is likely that the next expansions will be designed around it and will be much smoother

They have officially said that the next expansion was specifically designed for the mini sets, so it should be a ton smoother

I really like the way they are spreading out the opportunities for qualification. Should do a really good job of making sure the top 16 really are the best tournament players in their regions.

Ah okay thanks for the replies. The possibility of it being just a visual bug did occur to me but I'm not really keeping track of how many wildcards I have so I couldn't see whether that was the case or not.

I also was not keeping track, but I've seen plenty of comments on Reddit saying that they still got the wildcard, so I believe them. Also, it seems like it happened to pretty much everyone this week, so apparently it was a very consistent bug

Ok, so the 1-of Go Hard is just because you cannot have 4x Vile Feast. Got it.

So maybe change the name of the deck, then. This cannot by any stretch be called a Go Hard deck, except that it incidentally has 1 copy of the card. You'll basically never be casting Pack Your Bags even once, when you only have one copy of Go Hard and your only card draw is 3x Glimpse and 3x Zap (who has 9 other spells he could draw besides Go Hard).
