Which two legendaries to craft?

Submitted 4 years, 10 months ago by

I just bought the Toki Bundle and it was great. I got 4 legendaries. a bunch of epics, and enough dust to get any 2 legendaries I chose. but I have no idea what to do with that. Mage, Rogue, and Priest are out of the picture entirely (I only have the Basic set for those classes).

I am right now trying to decide between Al'Akir the Windlord, Scargil, Zentimo, Electra Stormsurge, The Soularium, Darius Crowley, and Archivist Elysiana

Al'Akir the Windlord I think is a good choice because he is evergreen and will pop up every now and then in mid-range shaman decks, so for the long term, not to bad. but right now I need him to finish my Big Shaman deck I have been working on.

Scargil I am not so sure about. he is the only missing piece in my murloc shaman, so that is why he is on my list, but I don't know how essential he is for that deck.

Electra Stormsurge and Zentimo I want because they seem to be the most versatile and useful shaman legendaries in standard, but I am not so sure about how powerful they actually are.

The Soularium I want because I see it in a lot of warlock lists, mainly the one hand/draw lock with Fel Lord Betrug and Plot Twist so I think I would get use out of it and have fun with it.

Darius Crowley seems to be a very versatile card in both mid-range and control warrior. the only thing is that he is only in standard for another 9 months or so, and I don't know how powerful warrior will be in these next few expansions before he leaves, so I probably wont craft him.

and Archivist Elysiana is necessary for winning the control vs control match, if your opponent has this and you don't, then you can kiss that victory good-bye. but I have been seeing less and less heavy control decks.

I think right now I am leaning towards al'akir and soularium but I would like to hear from some people who have played these cards to help me figure out which would be best.

Al'Akir the Windlord is not a bad craft. He isn't necessary for any decks, but is a "win more" card.

Scargil Don't craft him. I don't run him in my murloc shammy list anymore. His effect really is not needed.

Electra Stormsurge and Zentimo I don't own. Out of the 2, Electra would be the better option. I've been debating crafting both of these as well, but haven't felt either to be required in any decks.

The Soularium is a solid card that is used in A LOT of Warlock decks. Would not be a bad one to craft, though the state of Warlock isn't great atm.

Darius Crowley another just "win more" card. Can be replaced by other cards without too much of a win rate hit

Archivist Elysiana I DE'd her at the nerf, and I haven't had any desire to recraft. I only played her once in all the matches I played with her. 9/10 was just a dead card in my hand. I think you'd find her to be a waste of your dust.

Al'Akir the Windlord - I crafted him when I Even Shaman was a big thing, and I haven't used him a lot since.  Although, he is Classic, so chances are he'll be useful down the road. Especially currently with Muckmorpher, this guy still holds value.

Scargil - He is equivalent to the "Hype"-mon.  It's good, but not essential by any means and only useful in one deck.

Electra Stormsurge - Solid card and noted in most Shaman builds.  Will still be around for another 9+ months in Standard, but still shows it's face in certain Wild Shaman builds.

Zentimo - Totally a fun card.  But huge target right out the gate.  Once a person has been stung with their Faerie Dragon getting hit with Hex because the minion next to them was vulnerable, they target him quick.  If you craft him, don't get upset when he doesn't survive more than a turn.,

The Soularium - GREAT card.  But I am biased as a Warlock main.  It has a good amount of value... in the right deck.  If you don't have the cards for the decks that you see this in, then hold off on it.

Darius Crowley - He's a little too inconsistent in standard builds.  One week he's in, next he's tech at best.  There are other options for Rush in Warrior that don't cost 1600 dust

Archivist Elysiana- Showing up in more and more builds.  Even after nerf, next to Al'Akir the Windlord, probably your safest craft choice.  Add that since she was added in the first expansion of the year, she will be around for another 18+ months in Standard.  So a solid investment.

If I were you I would choose Darius Crowley and The Soularium. Both of them are currently useful in Standard right now and have been so for their entire shelf life. When crafting, you're typically looking for cards that fit into a variety of decks to ensure that they will be useful in later metas, and both cards fit the bill (whereas Scargil is really only useful in Murloc Shaman, Al'Akir the Windlord in Big Shaman, and Electra Stormsurge and Zentimo are often not used because of how reliant they are on synergy.

Oh, and I would also add that it is too early in the year to stop crafting Year of the Raven legendaries. You've got a solid 10 months before the rotation, and you'll almost certainly get your money's worth out of Darius Crowley and The Soularium. I wouldn't start boycotting YotR legendaries until halfway through the second YotD expansion at the earliest.

Big Shaman is quite flexible in which big minions you pick. The only must-have is Walking Fountain, but that's a common. Al'Akir the Windlord is good in the deck, but you can also use Zilliax, Ysera, Big Bad Archmage, Batterhead, Exotic Mountseller, Cairne Bloodhoof.

Darius Crowley is a good card, but I've been unable to have any success with Rush Warrior, so it seems he's mostly an addition to Bomb/Control Warrior at the moment.

I was pretty disappointed by Plot Twist Warlock when I played it from Zayle, Shadow Cloak and in the recent brawl. Possibly those decks weren't optimal, but the whole Plot Twist + Betrug combo just seems a lot of work to set up compared to its pay-off. And that's coming from someone who plays Star Aligner ;)

That said, The Soularium is a card that fits in many decks, even if currently Zoo is the only strong deck that uses it. It was used before in Mecha'thun Warlock and Discolock, so if you're going to actually play with your Wild cards at some point, you can probably use it in multiple decks there as well.

Electra Stormsurge is nice, but not as flexible as I thought she would be. If you cast an overload spell, you overload twice, which can make the next turn really weak. If you cast a cheap spell, getting the effect twice isn't all that impactful. And if you cast an expensive spell, getting enough mana for the spell +3 is difficult. Still a decent card, but more of a 30th card in a deck than a build-around.

Al'Akir the Windlord is good because he's evergreen, sooner or later he will be played again. In wild he can be played. Control and midrange shaman love this card, so I think he'll find space in the right meta

Scargil is useless, IMHO, as you want a very low curve in this deck. The value generators are more important than this guy.

Electra Stormsurge and Zentimo I own electra and in wild control shaman she is strong, but I wouldn't craft her without a clear deck to craft. The same apply to Zentimo: both are good but only in the right deck. Go ahead and craft them IF you do want to play with that decks.

    The Soularium is nice.

Darius Crowley is very strong in the right meta. I own him and I can say that tempo/rush warrior is strong... or well, he would be strong if the meta was different.

Archivist Elysiana is a dead card in everything that isn't a control-fatigue mirror match. I wouldn't craft her.

So, in the end, I suggest you Al'akir, or either Zentimo or Electra if you really like this kind of shaman.

Do you have Zilliax? Because if you don't that should be at the top of your list. It is neutral and it fits almost everywhere. The most versatile legendary around right now imo. Other than that Al'akir is a fun Shaman card to play with. Some of the others are fun cards to play with but ones that I wouldn't waste dust on crafting. The other option is to hold onto the dust. You don't need to use it right away. I save my dust as much as possible and only use it if I really need something.

I do have Zilliax and he was probably the best legendary I ever got through packs.

thank you everyone for your replies and advice. I think in the end I will go with al'akir and soularium.

scargil is useless aparently, so glad I did not craft it.

zentimo and electra are nice, but not necessary, or game changing at all.

darius is okay I guess, but warrior is not in a very good spot, and he is not necessary at all.

and elysiana is only useful in that one matchup, so I don't think I will be using her much
