Exactly! While the intent seems ill from the current information available, we need to wait and see the final product when they decide how to proceed. Perhaps the info that came out is incomplete, or they haven't really decided what they are going to do yet and what we got is an option they are considering. Or maybe if they are paying attention to the forums and can see all the negative feedback to this info coming out they will think about it and come up with a better solution like adding it to the current system instead of completely replacing it.
I may wait to see if we get more info about this in the Developer talks on Tuesday, or whenever it is this week. If this pass system is actually in addition to the gold system... not so bad. If they implemented a battle pass while not messing with the current quest system I think it'd be great. Even if there was no free tier to the battle pass, or if the free tier offered way less in terms of rewards, who cares! Just leave the current quest system for those who grind out 80-100 or more packs worth of gold throughout the course of an expansion.
I want to start an online petition to make Blizzard reconsider this. How many signatures do you think we’d need? Personally I think adding a paid battle pass is fine, but I feel like it should be in addition to the existing rewards structure.
If I start one I’ll need help spreading it around, spamming it in Twitch chats of Hearthstone streams, etc.
I am no longer a free to play player (haven't been for awhile), ... Even as a paying player I spend at least the $80 on each expansion mega bundle. I could get everything else without spending more money.
Same here. I've been getting pre-purchases, usually the larger one, and saving up gold. I'm currently only a few legendary minions away from having all of Scholomance, and I recently completed Outland. The rarity protection really helped make that happen as it used to be harder to get a wide variety of epics than it was to get legendaries. But now I didn't have to spend dust on epics and could make more of the legendaries.
But anyway, if they make this change I personally don't know what I will do. If they give us ample opportunity to earn gold other than just what's in the battle pass, such as leaving gold rewards in the daily quests, then I'll probably keep going on with what I do now, and maybe throw in $20 more for a battle pass from time to time. But if they really hamstring our ability to earn and stockpile gold, I'm going to be pissed and likely quit the game. Or at the very least, stop paying any real money for cards and just playing with my existing collection and whatever I can earn.
I'm a little confused... dailies will no longer award gold? Instead just awarding XP to progress the battle pass? That's how I read the screenshot about potential changes being dailies rewarding XP for the battle pass progression. I feel like that could be a bad idea, and may actually make it so F2P players earn LESS gold/packs throughout an expansion cycle. Hopefully they mean that currently they only reward gold, but they could change they to ALSO reward XP for the pass progression. A combination of current gold rewards from quests plus a battle pass could actually be very rewarding for all players, and especially for F2P players.
Never mind, I just realized there is a note that this system would remove gold from daily rewards, etc. I'm not sure I like this idea as the current info presented here makes me feel like the game will be less rewarding overall. Maybe I'm wrong, but why not maintain gold rewards AND introduce a battle pass rewards system? That's how MtGA is set up.
Haven’t played enough yet to have an opinion on nerfs. Been really enjoying Weapon Rogue though. Running a Krastinov, which I don’t see in many lists, but he feels good. One game as soon as I got him online with my Self Sharpening Sword the opponent immediately quit.
So I opened all my 181 Scholomance packs, plus the 5 golden packs. Got the 80+5 bundle, the rest with gold or rewards from last month. I got Professor Slate as my free "choose your own Legen..." I mean my free golden Legendary from pre-order. Got Omu as my free one for sign in, then opened 12 legendaries in my 181 packs. Best thing out of the golden packs was one golden Epic, the Paladin "Braggart" card, 2 mana.
Anyway, I was pretty pleased with that. All I was missing for the whole set were 9 legendaries, and I had some golden epics that some believe could be on a nerf list very soon, meaning I'm not mass DE and golden card purging like normal. Waiting patiently to see what happens.
But then, something crazy happens! I had signed out after opening all my packs. I am absolutely CERTAIN that I opened them all. But after about 30 minutes I signed back in... there was a pack in my inventory. Open it to find a Vectus waiting for me! NICE!!!

Yep. Hoping they fix this. It has always been a reset before, we were rightfully expecting another.
In past years when Arena was just Standard like it is now, there were not Arena resets just for one new set being introduced. In fact, way way back they used to never reset. I remember watching Kripp get on Twitch and a stream sniper would queue into him with a deck that contained old, powerful Wild cards that should not have been legal anymore. This happened because those snipers liked to hold high power level decks and wait to try and queue into streamers to get easy wins. Things like that are the only reason they started doing resets at rotations.
While I personally was not expecting a reset I also had a run started. But I was able to do so with an Arena ticket from the pre-purchase bundle so it cost me nothing to do so.
The only reason you should expect an Arena reset is if the card pool is seeing massive changes. A few examples would be the start of a new Standard year with three sets rotating to Wild, a special Arena event like the Dual Class Arena we tend to see around the Hallow's End event, or if they go back to the Standard/Wild Limited mix like we saw all of last year, when they were changing the card pool for Arena every two months.
In some ways I want Flux's Exodia Mage idea to work and bring the deck back to life in Standard, but in other ways I think... please no! I wonder though if it's better to just go full on Spell Damage variant? Also, doesn't the Exodia part need a Coin? So you either only pull off the Exodia combo if you are going second, or you add a Quest, or a Sidequest, and the Licensed Adventurer to give yourself a Coin.
For some reason, seeing that you got this made MY day! Congrats! Glad to see them acknowledging you and all the quality work at OoC, Flux! Maybe they’ll give you guys a damn card reveal next time!

That would be on par with how Arena worked in previous Standard years when the second and third sets released. So with that Kargath pull you probably made the better decision to finish it anyway.

So either way I'm probably getting the same rewards I would have from that ticket regardless if I started the run now or after tomorrow.
My personal “most under hyped card” was [Hearthstone Card (Skull of the Man’ari) Not Found]. At the time I hadn’t been playing much Warlock, and probably not paying super close attention to the upcoming cards, but I just didn’t see it’s potential. Boy was I so wrong!!! But then again, now that I am thinking about it I don’t remember it really taking off until Kobolds anyway with Cube and Void Daddy coming out.
It also happened to be my free Legendary Weapon at the Knights launch, so eventually I was happy to have it
I bet you're right that it was supposed to come out after the expansion release. Which is nice because I can wait to see how many legendaries I still need/want. With the 85 pack bundle, 5 from last month's end of season rewards, and the gold I have saved I will have around 200 packs to open on Thursday. With those packs, the dust I have, and a bit of luck I should have almost everything.
If I do get this though, it would guarantee me three legendary minions as I've only ever opened around 6 of the Year of the Dragon packs, and I am pretty sure I didn't get a legendary yet. Unless the "Year" packs don't guarantee one in the first ten. Then never mind what I just said.
I don’t remember specifically when but I had a meme Priest deck that used a few resurrection cards, cheap copy cards, and Herald Volazj to make 4 Ragnaros the Firelords and just let them rain down fire! It was never very good, but around the second Fire Festival I remade it using Big Priest’s shell to not only make 3-4 Rags, but also drop a Drakkari Enchanter to double up on the fun! No Volajz used in the new version though.

It also makes a 5 mana 9/9 that can attack as normal the turn after it’s played when combined with Blessing of Authority. But so does Wisp.

I still run a Spell Hunter from time to time in Wild. Mainly as a way to quickly clear the “play spells” gold quest.
