Indeed, I was glad to see them after taking a break for most of 2023, but I definitely got too many. I was only missing two out of the five expansions involved, so I ended up with a LOT of duplicates. On the bright side, I got a lot dust, great for grabbing the legendaries and epics I wanted but lacked the luck to find.

In the end, I probably spent almost as much money as I would have if I'd stuck around and played all year. A big part of that comes from not having earned quest gold or weekly brawl packs, but I'm sure I could have done a bit better if I'd spent less on Catch-up Packs.

Also! It's extremely important to know that the shop will offer you big discounts on expansion packs over the course of your first couple of weeks as a returner or newbie. Don't try to do all your catching up on the first day. Wait for Blizzard to get impatient and send you better offers.

I just realized that the XP bonus is the only reward I care about. (I really hate premium cards, especially signatures.) But I'll get it for the XP bonus anyway.

Also, why is it always Scabbs? SCABBS SCABBS SCABBS! So sick of Scabbs skins.

It sounds like a lot of cards, but remember that 80% of them are Common. Worse still, If you are missing cards from just one or two expansions and not the other(s), it's a whole lot of duplicates. AND the more you open, the worse they get -- it drops off pretty quickly.

In other words, you don't want more than a few of them, and you don't want them at all unless you've been out of the game for a whole year or more.

Rumble's fine for a little while (and ONLY if you spend some money), but it gets old fast. PvP is dumb, and raids are still nowhere to be seen. I would not recommend it at this time.

It's probably a little too late to drum up interest in it by adding cards to Hearthstone.

I'm glad they eased up on Achievements a bit. A lot of them require you to play cards that don't become viable until the next expansion or two (if ever), so it always felt bad being forced to tank your ladder climb or legend rating just for this.

Oh, you're absolutely right that you'd want to curate the spells carefully, but it's pretty clear that they will be mostly burn, with the intent of dealing lethal damage.

As for clearing the board, "one of each Cost" seems to fit the Reno formula, and guess who usually comes out at 9 mana, the turn before you can use The Galactic Projection Orb, conveniently limiting your opponent's board to a single minion slot!

I'd be willing to bet they go in order.

Triplewick Trickster doesn't quite make up for the loss of Cold Case, but I like it anyway.

Dealing lethal damage isn't the best use? What could be better?

(Obviously, there's no need to load it up with every Cost.)

Are we sure it would work? Spells in your graveyard usually revert to their original Cost.

Glad we don't have to wait for a patch to fix that. I wonder if they would have caught it if someone hadn't asked.

Silencing friendly minions will never be competitive. There, I said it.

Dare we dream that Priest will be better at healing than Warlock for once?

To be fair, just about every class is getting some highly annoying synergies powered by old "favorites."

The overall power level of the Year of the Pegasus is just going to be a lot higher than what we're used to.

I think it's totally appropriate to do some callbacks for the 10th anniversary.

Unfortunately, a lot of the most memorable cards in Hearthstone are memorable because they fell somewhere between "annoying" and "toxic."

Well, now we know why Darkbishop Benedictus is leaving Core.

The whole point of minis is that they have extremely strong Battlecries for just 1 mana. Giving them +3/+3 on top of that is a pretty big deal, and hoarding a bunch of them to play all in one turn in conjunction with the location is a very Roguish thing to do.

It's already kind of good, but it doesn't compete with Tier 1 with the current cards. I need to take a look at which of its cards are rotating out ...

The Crystal Cove makes me wonder how much drama could be avoided if they designed more Locations instead of "rest of the game" effects.
